The Standards Are High

For all of you out there that are glued to CNN or FOX News Channel and believe that all there is to England is rioting and looting you may need to readjust your thinking. The United Kingdom has a long established tradition of great musical acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath. It has also forged a lasting relationship with the hip hop world and its culture via legendary artists like Slick Rick The Ruler and Native Tongues member Monie Love. That relationship is still being carried out by a three piece band from the Suffolk town of Ipswich that goes by the moniker High Standards Music.

Adam “A.T Friso” Templeman, Lewis “Life” White, and Lewis “Biig” Clarke round out the band which formed while the three were in the same high school growing up and sharing whatever tunes created at that time with their fellow classmates. On their Facebook page the band is quoted as saying, “school was a great place to express who we really were and mix with all types of people. From school field rap battles to classroom rap sessions the passion was always there and we wanted to break new ground for UK musicians.” This ideal is evident in the music they have been currently producing. The band members cite an eclectic
range of musical influences that includes Nirvana, Kid Cudi, Nas, Lil Wayne, Common, Kristy Lorraine, DJ Premier and Asher Roth. All of which can be found while carefully listening to their entire catalog of music and that is a very refreshing thing.

The band uses almost everything possible in terms of instrumentation in order to craft its music and that may include the kitchen sink. They are known to use bass, drums, guitars, keyboards and drum machines to create loops and melodies for their songs. This lends their music to having a broad appeal to the masses and caters to the hip hop sensibilities of those in every region of the United States and to those who are midnight tokers or to those who are not. The musical range can be seen in such tracks as “Just Another Misdemeanor“, “Come To Me High” and “Shut It Down“. The latter track features a well known UK rapper by the name of Spardz.

This music comes highly recommended, no pun intended. It’s the kind of music you can listen to as you are politicking with your friends while enjoying a pint of your favorite IPA and if you are going to have a nice curling session with some clutch Reggie Miller or a little something from Maui. Look for big things from High Standards Music as they move forward in their quest to carve out a unique musical legacy of their own.
